Yawar Abbas

Yawar is a diplomat, policy professional and researcher with extensive experience in diplomacy, migration governance, consular affairs, and international policy coordination. He has over 16 years of experience in foreign service across Australia, Greece, Iran, Jordan, and Pakistan, with responsibilities spanning political reporting, migration and border governance, crisis management, diaspora engagement, and public diplomacy where he has managed high-level bilateral relations, coordinated with international organisations, and lead consular and administrative reforms. His research and policy expertise spans migration governance, foreign policy analysis, federalism, consular diplomacy, and disaster management.

Yawar holds a BA in Politics and English Literature from the University of Peshawar, an MA and MPhil in Politics from the Government College University (Lahore). He is currently Counsellor at the Pakistan High Commission, Australia. Previously previously the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Pakistan in Athens, and Head of Pakistan’s Mission in Mashhad (Iran) and served as Third Secretary in Jordan. He has taught at different universities in Pakistan. He has worked extensively with refugees and migrants.
