Maria completed her studies in Oxford in 2012. Before coming to Oxford, she gained Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degrees (2010) from St. John’s Medical College in Bangalore, India.

In 2007, she was awarded the Indian Council of Medical Research Student Research Fellowship for work for the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences.  In the same year, Maria also received India’s Young Scientist award from the Minister of Science and Technology and was chosen to represent her country at the Lindau Young Scientists and Nobel Laureates meeting in Germany. From 2007-10, she undertook extensive research and participated in various conferences focused on Neuroscience and Anatomy, Psychiatry, and Neurogenesis.

Maria is currently conducting further research at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.
