Peter is a professional Civil/ Mining Engineer with a First-Class Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, and a MSc. Degree in Mining Engineering (with Distinction) from Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter
He is currently the Director of Mines at the National Minerals Agency (NMA) in Sierra Leone. In that capacity, he is responsible for promoting and facilitating the management and development of mineral resources and the regulatory administration. This includes the supervision of all reconnaissance, exploration, and mining operations. he directly supervises three units within the Mines Directorate: Licensing and Technical Assessment, Mining Cadastre and Mining Compliance.
He is also responsible for ensuring effective implementation of mineral sector policies formulated by the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources while also providing technical and strategic advice to the Minister on emerging policy issues. As Director of Mines, he represents the NMA in the negotiations for large-scale mining projects between investors and the Government of Sierra Leone. He also represents the NMA on the Environment Protection Agency and the Minerals Advisory Boards.
Peter is a member of the Sierra Leone Multi-Stakeholder Group and played a very active role in the SLEITI 2011 reconciliation report that led to Sierra Leone achieving compliance EITI status.
Prior to joining the NMA in 2013, he worked as Mine Planning Engineer at Tonkolili Iron Ore, Sierra Leone’s largest mining operation. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), Sierra Leone Institute of Engineers (SLIE), Emerging Leaders in Mining group and an Alumnus of the International Mining for Development Centre (IM4DC).
