Leila graduated from Al Akhawayn University, Morocco, with a bachelor's in international studies. After her time at Oxford with the MPhil in development studies, she returned to Morocco and worked with disadvantaged women seeking to start and develop small businesses and cooperatives. She became increasingly interested in all issues related to enterprise and innovation and sought opportunities to develop her knowledge and skills in the area. She is now in Sweden, pursuing a Ph.D. in research policy at the department of Business Administration, Lund University where she is conducting research into ways of stimulating scientific production and integration, and facilitating innovation and collaboration to achieve economic and social development. While her current academic focus is on higher-skilled innovation, she continues to volunteer with non-governmental organisations working to help empower low-skilled women in Morocco.
