Mabel is an alumna of the Weidenfeld-Hoffman Trust Scholarship and Leadership Program. In 2016, she graduated with a M.Sc. in African Studies from St. Catherine’s College, Oxford. Her research during the program was focused on gender and democratic governance in Kenya. She previously earned a B.A. in International Relations from the United States International University in Nairobi, Kenya.
Mabel has been involved in several projects since her time at Oxford. Last year, she completed a research project for the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DfID) focused on strengthening the leadership and influence of women in politics in Kenya. As a part of a dedicated team, she conducted the project at both the national and county levels and analyzed how targeted policy reform could improve the levels of female representation in Kenyan politics.
She is currently working as a consultant at the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) in Nairobi, Kenya. In this position, Mabel has had the opportunity to work on projects focused on addressing urbanization issues affecting women in the African context as well as the coordination of UN agencies in sustainable urban development efforts.
