Nikhil studied for a Bachelor of Civil Law as a Louis Dreyfus-Weidenfeld Scholar. He previously studied at the Law College of Bangalore University (2013) and the University of Hamburg under the Dr Angela Merkel – DAAD Scholarship (2014). Through his studies for the Bachelor of Civil Law at Oxford, Nikhil sought to form a deeper understanding of EU competition and international trade law.
On his return to India, Nikhil worked with AZB & Partners, a leading law firm in Mumbai as an Associate working on Competition and trade law. At AZB, Nikhil worked on a number of complex merger notifications to the Competition Commission of India (CCI), on appeals against decisions of the CCI and on leniency proceedings. Nikhil also worked on trade remedies proceedings before the Directorate General of Safeguards, Ministry of Finance, Government of India and the Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Nikhil has since moved to the UK, and he currently works as a Legal Counsel on international trade-related matters at Bank of England. Prior to that, he worked with the UK Government Legal Department as a Trade Lawyer with the Department for International Trade. At DIT, Nikhil advises policy leads on the international law, EU and public law risks relating to subsidies, State Aid and import controls (including trade sanctions and FTAs).
