Usuta is currently the Head of Research at Laurel Strategies, Inc.
Suta trained as an economist with a strong interest in the political economy of development. After completing an undergraduate degree in Economics, he worked as a risk analyst for 3 years before joining a portfolio management company as an Investment Strategist in 2015. After a brief sojourn in late 2016 volunteering in Lebanon on social innovation projects tailored for Syrian and Palestinian refugees, he returned to Namibia in 2017 and joined the public service as Special Assistant to Minister at the National Planning Commission. He formed part of the core-working group that drafted Namibia’s National Development Plan and served as adviser to the Namibian delegation to the 72nd UN General Assembly. He is a former Chair of the Economic Association of Namibia, a policy advocacy think tank based in Windhoek. In 2018 he completed a postgraduate degree in sustainable development at the Sustainability Institute at Stellenbosch University, where he lectures and consults on social change for sustainability.
